Krishna Kumbhakar

Krishna Kumbhakar is a fifth-generation Terracotta artist from Bankura, a village globally recognised for its intricate Terracotta craftsmanship. Raised in a family of master artisans, Krishna was immersed in the traditions of this ancient craft from an early age, learning the meticulous art of shaping and baking clay under the guidance of his father and grandfather. His dedication to preserving the cultural legacy of Panchmura Terracotta, combined with his innovative approach, has made him a pivotal figure in the art form’s evolution. Krishna’s works, distinguished by their earthy tones and graceful forms, have been showcased at prestigious events such as the Bishnupur Mela and the Handicrafts Fair in New Delhi, Rural Craft and Cultural Hub (RCCH) initiative – in collaboration with UNESCO and more. His efforts in reviving and adapting traditional motifs have brought contemporary relevance to this ancient craft.
