Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future: A Timeless Journey Through Art Across Eras.

No matter where we go, we carry with us a piece of our story, an essence that shapes who we are. At Homessence Group, ancient traditions blend with contemporary creativity, creating a space where Roy’s legacy Dokra sculptures and Nadia’s bold abstract works embody a narrative of cultural preservation and innovation. It’s a reflection on the bond between nature and humanity through sustainable art. Our collection takes you on a creative journey that honours the past while embracing the future.

Why Homessence Group?

At Homessence Group, we proudly represent master artists and emerging talents whose work reflects generations of artistic prowess, emotional depth, commitment to their practice, and professionalism. Highly trained and respected in their craft, they bring understated stories to life through a contemporary lens – narratives that resonate with our soul and enrich our understanding of the world.

These artists are driven not by fame but by a profound commitment to preserving the cultural nuances in their art. Their works thoughtfully blend their rich heritage with modern expressions, offering fresh perspectives that captivate seasoned collectors and art connoisseurs.

When you acquire art from Homessence Group, you not only own the works of our prominent artists but also support some of the lesser-known yet talented creators from the same communities, as a portion of our profits goes towards uplifting their lives and preserving their craft and legacy.

Pattachitra, Mythology on Canvas: Originating in the states of Odisha and West Bengal, this art form has its roots in ancient Indian history, where it was traditionally used to depict mythological stories on cloth scrolls for cultural celebrations.

Pattachitra

Over time, Pattachitra evolved into a distinct style of painting characterised by intricate detailing, vibrant colours, and narratives inspired by local folklore and ancient stories. Skilled artists bring these tales to life through precise brushwork and meticulous craftsmanship, preserving a cultural heritage that spans thousands of years.

Contemporary Art, Bold Expressions of Modern Life: Contemporary art is a dynamic reflection of the world we live in – fluid, ever-evolving, and deeply connected to the human experience.

Contemporary Art

Rooted in experimentation and innovation, contemporary art breaks traditional boundaries to explore new ways of seeing and understanding the complexities of modern life. From vibrant abstractions challenging the viewer’s perception and thought-provoking works on social and cultural issues to mixed media that blends materials and techniques, contemporary art is as diverse as the artists who create it.

The Curators

Ipshita Dasgupta

Co-founder and COO

Having come from Kolkata (previously Calcutta) – the ‘Cultural Capital of India’, artistry is second nature to Ipshita. (Those who know about Calcutta would know, it’s the Mecca for artists and creative souls.) Ipshita has forever been strongly rooted to her cultural heritage. As a Jadavpur Uni grad and master’s from JNU in Political Science (IYKYK!), she has always been aware of the influence of arts on the global society. Even though she’s worked in advertising-media throughout her decade-long career, she has always wanted to get involved in the space of arts. Homessence is her dream project. It’s her baby that she’s determined to nurture into a source of pride. “Art is a unifying force, regardless of its form.”, says Ipshita. This media maven has been admired so far for her great work on big, global brands; she now aspires to provide a platform for artists. When not working, Ipshita loves to travel, read, and try diverse cuisines.

Chetan’s passion for renovations and restorations inspired him to get involved as a founding team at Homessence, ensuring an exceptional procurement service for the brand while fostering opportunities for the underappreciated artists. He cherishes nature and the quality ‘Kiwi’ lifestyle, often indulging in gardening and DIY projects during his leisure. As a doting father, he relishes moments with his baby boy, joyfully contributing to their growth.

Shaan Bhattacharya

Founder and Managing Director

Coming from a lineage of artists, poets, and musicians, Shaan has witnessed the challenges faced by artists, particularly those hailing from small towns. The lack of exposure presents a significant hurdle, benefiting intermediaries who profit from the artists’ hard work. During his time at B-School Shaan realised, the concept ‘Economies of Scale’, excludes all those from the existing, centralised business model that wish to uphold their generational work staying close to their roots. During his corporate career across advertising, consulting, and DeFi, Shaan understood the importance of creating an inclusive economy. His brainchild – Homessence is aimed at bringing the obscured talents under the global spotlight from smaller, regional pockets. Outside of work, Shaan enjoys time with his family and fur baby Romeo. He creates content for people navigating life transitions and tries to contribute to the education system when he can, by guiding young students through the current tech and business landscapes.
